Subj:   Re: PSF questions

From:   Steve Rockarts

Thomas, Carrie,

I want to thank you both for responding so quickly to our questions; you both bring up some great points and have cleared up some confusion with regards to the Batch RP, associated AG's and Perf Periods.

We do need a way to separate and control the Batch accounts as well as place a RP ceiling on the remaing accounts. Carrie hit the nail on the head, the batch accounts are not supposed to run during the day but the fact is, they do - so we need to separate these accounts, give them full reign at night and limit them during the day. I was having a brain cramp came with this and using Performance Periods - I realize, now, that the batch accounts will only be limited by the RP itself and moving them to a lower AG has no affect as they are getting the full weight of that RP itself - when they are in their own RP. In addition to this batch account limit, we want a cieling on the general population accounts - not wanting them to get used to the increased performance of the 2 new nodes only to have it disappear later. We wern't sure if we wanted to limit the batch accounts to the same 75% ceiling and have them in the mix with all other sessions or limit them further so as to not affect the client applications during the day - currently they are in the mix with the client apps. We have decided that we will attempt to limit them further.

I will definitely make some changes to the overall RP weightings regardless of whether or not we use this "Batch" RP. I will set the system-default RP 0 weight quite high (thanks Thomas) and this way avoid any concerns in regards to the "H", AG group (thanks Carrie).

Here are my latest thoughts as far as weight go:

Default-System RP0 = 1000
General RP1 = 100 (Ceiling RP limit 75%)
Batch RP2 = 33 (will have most of system at night)

So...we are limiting by the RP ceiling, the RP weightings and the usage patterns are taking care of themselves (mostly); in that, the batch will have full use at night but be limited by the RP weight at night. It is only a matter of tweaking this Batch RP number. It is confusing because of the 75% ceiling and how this will factor in.

You thoughts are much appreciated.

Steve
