Subj:   Re: Alternatives to Teradata load utils

From:   Ian Russell

SAS/ACCESS is a CLI interface - SASV8.2 is single threaded so similar to BTEQ Export, SASV9.1 will have a FastExport facility we have yet to see it or test it just been promised it. Lots of discussion around 32bit & 64bit OS as well. Lots of playing around with sessions, unix internals (MTU, clispb.dat, etc) & others to increase transfer rates. SASV8.2 can FastLoad data from SAS to Teradata using the fastload=yes command.

We installed a GB LAN connection to attempt to speed up transfer times from this we achieved:

SAS Import from Teradata - 16Mbps
Fast Export from Teradata to SAS unix server - 250Mbps

The 'fun' was converting each fast exported file into a file easily readable by SAS. SAS will not read default fast export format, out of preference it likes CSV's - when will this be an option! SAS are unable to provide the conversion kit from Teradata formats to SAS formats as this is buried in the OS of SASV9.1.

We have a SAS/ACCESS Interface to Teradata White Paper, which I can send to you off line if you require.

Ian
