Subj:   Re: Is compressing a column a design change?

From:   Meade, Cornelius

There is no question that compression can often be leveraged to achieve savings/efficiencies in many instances but your question is really one of if implementing compression on a data column constitutes a system/application change. I think you have already seen at least one reply that shows the possibility of unexpected consequences. I guess your question then boils down to if the risk of any unforeseen issues arising is acceptable. That is something only you can answer and your testing would be structured accordingly.
