One small additional suggestion:

Watch for blocking with jobs. Depending on what you do with your access rights, your ddl, and how you schedule your restores, the mix may be fine at certain levels of utilities but not so swift with others. Teradata Manager is a big help because you have 'eyes' on as it happens and drill down. Sometimes though it is hard to see what is happening because some work is done in the default partition. So I would also suggest monitoring for cpu and resources too. But blocking is a big one and that you can see easily.
