Paul,

Probably every site does this (or something like it) so code should be easily available. Yes, Teradata Manager includes a 'system maintenance' application, I don't know if you can schedule the processes from here or would have to set them up manually.

Good idea to copy the data to historic tables, you can then change the table definitions as required to make life a lot 'better' when querying the data. You can remove fallback (halves your disk space requirement), add SI's, collect stats, compress columns, not copy all the columns -- in short all the things you might do with a normal user-defined table.
