  2) Is there anyway to call teradata utilities from perl script? so that we can setup mail and paging from perl on failure of teradata utilities?

We use a naive approach on UNIX to do exactly this--you may run into trouble using some of the Net::* and IO::* modules on Windows due to blocking problems (this is more a Windows issue than a Perl issue).

The right way to do this is through the APIs, but what I do is build the routines, then pipe them into the Teradata utilities. Then I grep through the logs and parse out the relevant information. I've also written some custom paging modules.

You might also look into Dean Arnolds DBD::Teradata module -- I've not used it, but hear good things.

I suspect the NCR proprietary Perl CLI software (called, oddly enough, pcli) is falling seriously out of date, but people on this list (hi, Al! How's the weather?) have used it to good effect in the past.

Thanks,
