Subj:   Re: Oracle Packages

From:   Theiss, Clifford

The replies have been concentrating on the difference between packages and procedures, but I believe your main concern is whether or not Teradata has the equivalent of an Oracle function, which can be referenced in a SQL statement. The answer is NO. It sounds like you're trying to compare Oracle to Teradata and you feel that rewriting your Oracle SQL to eliminate the function will invalidate your apples to apples comparison. Get used to it because you will probably find more apples to oranges scenarios as your comparison progresses. Oracle and Teradata are different and you cannot perform a 100% apples to apples comparison.

Thanks,
