Subj:   History table monthend logic

From:   Burton, Bruce

Does anyone have some sample logic they would be willing to share that could be used to case history table "end dates" (high value '9999- 12-31' are for current active rows, otherwise end dates are valid dates when the row was replaced by the new high value row) to pull rows as they appeared at a prior monthend reporting period...say pulling a Nov02 monthend snap-shot from current Jan03 database rows. Example input table would be:

account plan_code plan_start_date plan_end_date

12345 PPLAN1 2002-01-12 2003-01-14 <---old rec
12345 PPLAN2 2003-01-14 9999-12-31 <---new rec
                                                    currently active

We have a ton of history tables that I need to incorporate into views so we can see how customers looked at the end of past reporting months. Also, any alternate approaches to monthend reporting from a teradata warehouse would be appreciated.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bruce
