1. Your user needs to be able to do three different pings:

ping ping nodecop1.full.dns.path ping nodecop1


The first tells you that the physical path is ok, the second says that dns substitution is ok and the third tells you that the dns suffix list is ok.

2. Have the user edit his ODBC configuration, uncheck the 'Do not resolve ip' box, and substitute one or two valid numeric ip addresses (in place of dns names) in the address list and see if this helps.
