Another good product to look at is from BEZ Systems in Chicago. Although they are not a realtime monitor like Ambeo, their product does analyze usage and activity. Plus they have a capacity planning/predictive piece that is outstanding.

One of the major differences between Ambeo vs. V2R5 query log is where the overhead occurs. Ambeo sits on the network and is essence a network sniffer. The good news is that you don't have any database overhead for capturing SQL. The bad news is that for environments like Microstrategy, Cognos, Brio, etc. (those BI tools) is that Ambeo isn't much help since they can give you can't see VIEWS of VIEWS. If you have those types of tools running, Ambeo won't give you the tracking and auditability you need. In this case V2R5 query log is better.

By contast, BEZ does give you the VIEWS of VIEWS because it uses the V2R4/R5 query log. So you can actually see what is going on and make adjustments to your logical/physical design to maximize performance. We recommend to our customer to use the Teradata query log capabilities for realtime monitoring and BEZ for performance management.
