Subj:   Re: INDICATORS FIELD in FastLoad Script

From:   Madhu Reddy

I was using Queryman and Bteq... then i did following on Queryman and bteq... the it's showed proper one...

sel * from xxx where phoneno is null;

One more question is in below mail.......

  INDICATORS are used when data is extracted from one database (DB) for transfer to another DB. They are used to represent the fact that the first DB has columns that contain a NULL. When a NULL is written to disk in a field of a record, it is no longer a NULL. It is zero for a numeric column or space for a character column.

I loaded the rows into a table using multiload script... and the input table contains few columns NULL like fillowing

NOTE: i didn't used INDICATOR field in mload script

Raji;;Calif
Siva;2146739991;Texas
Raju;1234567890;Sandiego

here phone number is null in first record.....

After loading data into table, when i did a sel * from queryman or Bteq i am getting '?' in phoneno filed in first record......

That means, without using INDICATOR filed it storing NULL as NULL in table......

pls..correct me if i am wrong......

I just want to test following......

  When a NULL is written to disk in a field of a record, it is no longer a NULL. It is zero for a numeric column or space for a character column.

pls..let me know if anyone tried similar one....

THANX

-madhu
