From:   Thomas Stanek

Tony,

Is there anyway to tell if a new column being added to the end of a table that's marked as NOT NULL DEFAULT ' ' COMPRESS ' ' is actually getting compressed.

The Filer utility will allow you to examine the contents of Cis, rows, data blocks, and, I believe, the indicator bytes that Chuck referenced. It is a utility that runs from the Supervisor Window. There is a lot of documentation about in the Teradata RDBMS Utilities, Volume 1, A-K Manual.
