By shear coincidence I was just researching that very topic this morning. Contrary to what I had thought, COMPRESSION, in fact, is not used in spool. Compressed fields are expanded as they enter a spool table.

Teradata developers realize this is not ideal. With some luck, that may get fixed in V2R6 (yes, SIX).
