Subj:   Re: Optimal node configuration

From:   fred & uli

My understanding is that the clique defines the nodes that are used for the failover, that means that the remaining nodes in the clique will take over the work of the error node.

In case you are in the 3-3-4 node configuration you will have in the worst case about 66% system power in case of a single node failure (if a node in a three node clique fails). Otherwise you might only have 50% (if a node in the two node clique fails).

Which you choose depend a bit on the requirements. You can use a statistical approach and choose the 4-4-2 configuration as you have in 8 of 10 failures 75% ((8*0.75+2*0.5)/10 = 70% average system availability vs. (6*0.66+4*75)/10 = 69.9% average system availability in case of one node failure) If you want the highest minimum system power you should go for 3-3-4 - you should really avoid 2-2-2-2-2 as you has no benefit.

Kind regards

Ulrich
