Thanks Sam, I was far too busy to expand on my recommendation yesterday!
Talking frankly to existing customers is the only way to cut through the confusion caused by marketing hype, analysts reports and benchmark tests. It will quickly demonstrate that there is a huge gulf between the various suppliers when it comes to whether or not their customers believe that they made the right choice. Teradata, IMHO, largely does what the company claims, which is rare. Existing customers should back this up.
As Sam says, ask tough questions, you won't regret it.
