Subj:   Any info on Insufficient Memory for Plastic Steps?

From:   Sid Gudes

Hi All,

I'm getting a Teradata error 3712, "Insufficient memory for Plastic Steps for this request", when I issue a certain SQL transaction. Anyone run into this before and have any ideas on what to do about it?

The documentation discusses whether it is a "simple" request or not, and I'm not clear on what "simple" means. The transaction in question is roughly:

bt;
about 75 updates
about 3 deletes
about 5 inserts
et;

The Deletes and Updates use pretty simple Where clauses, 3 items and'ed together, no joins, no correlated suqueries, nothing fancy, and the Updates are updating about 3 columns each. Is that "simple" in the context of this message? If not, how do I simplify this?

Thanks,
