If something isn't working like you think it should, I suggest you open an incident with the GSC.
Since in this case, As Fred points out, the fix to the problem is already known you could request an ETAPE but it would have to be at a higher version than you are currently running and therfore obtaining the fix (even as an ETAPE) would require upgrading to a newer release.
I guess the workaround provided about using the CAST has elevated this instance of the problem.
