I did this method with a table of 75 gig 2 weeks a go. But in your case, you need to have 3 times 200 gig. One for the original table, one for the table in the spool and one for the new table. For the reason of John Hall

If an alter table fails (or is cancelled) when it's adding 1 or more columns.... I choose to duplicated the table instead of ALTER TABLE.

Do some test with insert a smaller table to understand the way Teradata work in this case.
