Subj:   Re: What information does 'collect statistics' store?

From:   Narayan Murthy K S

  It stores the actual number of rows for certain values (including the most frequently occurring value within each percentile), but not for every value.

I have a question here:
How do you make out what gets actually stored - because the place where these statistics gets stored w.r.t a column is in DBC.TVFIELDS column "FieldStatistics" which is of type VARBYTE(16383). How would you interpret this information which is stored in terms of bytes.

This is what i tried :

create table t1(a int,b int);

** populate the table with 10 rows, then collect statistics on t1 column a;

** then "select Fieldstatistics from dbc.tvfields" based on the tableid and databaseid of the table i had created.

It displayed information in bytes - i couldn't draw any conclusion from it.

Narayan.
