Just to be precise, a fully snowflaked dimensional schema IS in third normal form. Sorry, but this is something that really bothers me, this incorrect notion that 3NF is some sort of pure schema, and anything else is tainted. Look at a snowflake schema, it passes all of the 3NF rules.

What "3NF" people object to is the fact table, because it has a multipart index. But it's still 3NF.
