Subj:   BI/Query supports WinCLI

From:   Gary Brown

This TD ODBC vs WinCLI was something we briefly explored. BI/Query (Hummingbird) is the front end tool to our DW user community.

We've been purchasing the TD ODBC at a reduced volume cost, but as a per seat license, it is not an inexpensive issue when your user community is expanding rapidly. We have about 400 users - and we're not anywhere near some of the really big communities.

Since BI/Query has a native Teradata WinCLI connect built in, I brought up the question of why we need to purchase the ODBC drivers going forward.

Before I had much opportunity to compare one versus the other as far as performance etc., it was abruptly discounted from the standpoint of introducing a new standard and then supporting two rather than one connection format (we already have 400 ODBC licenses).

I believed there was some degree of difference in performance with WinCLI coming out ahead of TD ODBC. If this is not the case, then we only lose on on the $ side, rather than both $ and performance.
