Subj:   Re: Email alerts through Teradata Manager

From:   Calvin Kline

Teradata Manager 4.1.1 (and probably 4.1) is used here to send e-mail (beeper-mail, text pager) alerts without the use of any MS mail client (Express or Outlook). Any mail client (for example, WSend mail could be used www.support.jgaa.com... ) or a Yahoo web search for many other mail clients of this type.

1) With Alert policy editor, define an action that executes a MS DOS command file (dot-BAT or dot-CMD file).

2) With Alert Policy editor, define that action as the target of the desired alert condition.

3) With Alert Policy editor, (a) apply the policy to a profile, and (b) bring the profile active in Teradata Manager, and (c) start the Alert Control Module

4) Put the command file defined in 1) in ".\Teradata Manager 4.1.1\bin" or ".\secure". The command file executes the mail client (perhaps wSendmail) sending out a canned message (to an individual or to a distribution list) appropriate for the alert.

(Note: Teradata Manager 4.1.1 may have a slight bug in starting scripts for alert conditions detected by PM/PMON. See Incident RECA8SQ3U: "In-house experiments have shown that any alert detected by the PM Data Collector fails to properly start a dos program/command file. But if the alert is detected by the SQL Data Collector, the dos program does get started/run correctly. " In which case, start an SQL script as the target action of the alrt condition, and put the .OS in the script to start the dot-BAT or dot-CMD file). A chat with your NCR Customer Advocate would also probably help.
