  IBM has dropped immediate plans for AIX 5L (formerly called Project Monterey) on IA64, instead offering it on their RS6000 server line. Not an option.  



I'll take your word for this, but out of curiosity, why does the chip matter? At Partners, I heard Ramesh Bhashyam say that the Teradata code is not hardware-specific. Moreover, I assume that the code is written in C, which is more or less hardware-neutral -- surely there isn't Assembler code in there that requires the Intel instruction set?!
