Subj:   Re: INSERT INTO big table

From:   Eric J. Kohut

On V2 R4.0.1 there is about almost no difference between the Mload and Insert / Select into a populated table approaches when the % change is 1%. In fact, the Insert / Select approach is slightly faster at 1 % change. This assumes that the data on your system is well distributed. The performance of both approach is slightly less for a single node system.

I can't give any specific performance number because they would be greatly dependent upon several things including, Teradata RDBMS version / release, hardware platform, System OS (MP-RAS vs NT), internal performance options. That said, even if I had most of the information, without being at your customer site, I would only be able validate a range of performance, if you'd like to send your information on rows / node / sec.

Just a note MP-RAS and NT have an overall equal performance; however, on certain tasks they could perform slightly different.

The rest of Tom's comments are all good recommendation. The
