The problem is checktable creates an invalid update that then prevents proper purging of before images of completed transactions in the Transient Journal. So this table keeps growing and eventually filling up dbc perm space. I think this happens only to V2R4 sites, and the fix is DR 57432, which I've been told will be generally available shortly.
Workarounds: NCR suggests to avoid using checktable until DR 57432 is installed. If you do need to run checktable, as you said: schedule a tpareset which effectively fixes the wrong data structure updated by the utility. You can also monitor the TJ in case you've run checktable. In every case check with your NCR support person.
