Subj:   EXCEPT keyword

From:   Dean Taplin

It appears you cannot use the EXCEPT keyword in a CREATE VIEW statement. I get error 3706: expected something between an integer and the 'EXCEPT' keyword. Is there anyway round the problem without reverting back to using a NOT IN.

     CREATE VIEW fred.fview1(CLIENTID) AS
         SELECT CLIENTID
         FROM MIDASVA.VCLIENT A
         WHERE A.status = 'A'
           AND A.age > 40
         EXCEPT ( SELECT E.CLIENTID FROM MIDASVA.VEVENT E WHERE E.mailable = 'N')

The above query doesn't work,,,

     SELECT CLIENTID
         FROM MIDASVA.VCLIENT A
         WHERE A.status = 'A'
           AND A.age > 40
         EXCEPT ( SELECT E.CLIENTID FROM MIDASVA.VEVENT E WHERE E.mailable = 'N')

...but if I run just the SELECT part of the query it works okay.

Thanks,

Dean Taplin
