Dean,

How about using a load utility rather than raw SQL - MultiLoad should do nicely (Granted, It would be better if you didn't have to do this...)

Just put the data you wish to load into a flat file, write a multiload script to do the insert/update and run it... If you are going to be doing this kind of thing often I really think this is the correct way to go (assuming you have a license for Multiload at your site.)

If you are new to multiload scripts I suggest you download inTeraScript - Jim Calvert's script building utility. This utility can generate the scripts from the table definition in the data dictionary and can save you a lot of time. With a small amount of fairly obvious editing the scripts should be able to do what you are after.

Otherwise use the cocatenated string workaround found below...
