From:   Jay Selkie

The following note was distributed to the LISTSERV owners warning us of a new virus making the rounds.

More information can be found at Norton:

Hey guys, this is no joke, there is a new virus out there, we just got it. It works like Melissa, it's an executable called zipped_files.exe. It does the same thing (and more) that melissa does. I updated our Norton files on 6/1, it didn't detect it. The pattern file I updated today (pattern dated 6/7/99) did detect it but cannot clean it. You might think about updating your systems before word gets out and then it'll take days to update your patterns.

We pull the dat files directly from the source then put it on an internal web server for distribution.

I have some new information. It's worse than melissa. It appears to run as a trojan horse and self-replicates on the infected system. Once you launch the app, it'll store in temp, rename itself, then go into the address book and send infected files out. Your best bet is to delete it straight away. Once infected, we're not sure how to clean the system.
