Subj:   Re: OT: Melissa Virus

From:   Melba Ramirez

As I know, this is a virus that affects MS Word' macros, and only affects computers running Office97. McAfee VirusScan 4.0.2 with the virus file definition 4.0.40.19 can protect you from that. Next can find more information about how the virus acts.

Hope this helps you.

-------
The Melissa macro virus is contained in a Microsoft (MS) Word document, but is not harmful to your workstation. However, if your workstation is infected with the virus, it will generate and send email messages containing the virus to other persons, infecting their workstations. This unnecessary email traffic could possibly bring down your email system.

The macro virus is disguised in an email message that contains one of two subject headers:

1. "Important message from xxxxxxx" where xxxxxxx looks like a user name,

OR

2. "Here is the document you asked for - don't show anyone else,"

If you receive an email message that contains one of the above headers:

* DO NOT OPEN THE EMAIL OR THE WORD ATTACHMENT. Simply delete the entire message and your workstation will not be infected.

* If you have already opened the email message and the attachment, and if you have MS Word 97, your MS Word application may be infected. You should upgrade to McAfee VirusScan 4.0.2 and the latest McAfee patch.
